Copy Chip // Permissions Post
This post is an info and permissions post for Axl's Copy Chip function, which can only affect robotic characters. Obviously, given no permission, I will assume that Axl is incapable of copying your character's "DNA" to use for himself. But if you're interested in potential shenanigans, read on!
In short, Axl's part of a line of robots that have a copy chip installed. This chip allows the robot to copy another robot's form and abilities for a short period of time. Said period of time would be defined by how much energy he has left specifically for powering his transformations, and in Empatheias the ability requires time to recharge. He's incapable of storing the information he takes from other robots, so every time he wants to transform into someone, he will have to retake their information. On top of that, the ability is limited such that Axl can only transform into robots who are his approximate size. On the plus side, the ability isn't limited to just sapient robots. He can also transform into robots that have limited sapience and intelligence, since he is merely borrowing their form.
For Axl to obtain a robot's information, he fires a “copy shot” from his gun, which takes the DNA core data (don't ask, it's Capcom's special brand of magic science) from the target. This usually occurs when the target is close to death, as the copy shot kills them while extracting the data. For Empathieas though, this can be played with. Where in canon extracting DNA core data is fatal, it can be less so in Empatheias. Given the willingness of the target, Axl could potentially extract DNA core data with no injury, or, if the target is unwilling, with more force. We can work out the details when the time comes.
When he transforms in canon, he doesn't just take on the surface appearance of the target. He copies everything, internal and external. This means he can also use all of their abilities while he's transformed, and it goes as far as being able to fool systems that respond only to certain persons. In Empatheias the abilities he can use while transformed can be limited to prevent Axl from doing things you wouldn't want him to be capable of doing. He's not capable of partial transformations, however, so he can only look completely like the target. He doesn't copy knowledge or personality though, so he can only go off what he's seen the target do.
Finally, I am definitely willing to allow characters with knowledge in robotics and programming/hacking potentially mess with Axl's Copy Chip. However, it will have serious consequences on Axl (and he'll definitely be unwilling) so if you want to head down that route, we'll have to discuss it in detail! You can hit me up here, or ping me at
tenkomi.
Here's a little form to fill out if you're interested in interacting with the Copy Chip in some fashion! The form's meant for robot characters, so if your character is a roboticist/hacker and you want in on this somehow, just throw a comment down!
